In his classic Red Book on Play (1934), Ely Culbertson
featured this hand as an illustration of potential heinous mismanagement
of entries; but the special aspect of this layout went unnoticed apparently
by everyone, until it finally was brought to public attention in
The Bridge World in 1998.
According to the text, the hapless declarer actually went down two in a
contract of 3NT. Whereas any conscious player could
arrange to win the obvious eleven tricks, your mission is to do even better.
