Duncan Lookout Loop Tahoe National Forest |
August 8, 2020
A good day. We had the place to ourselves. There would have been more flowers a couple of months ago.
On the ridge top
Look closely at these guys:
Beautiful, and right at our feet at lunch time
The lookout is actually located on Little Bald Mountain
In contrast to what the ranger said, of the 8,000 lookouts that were built in
forty-nine states, fully three-quarters of them have been torn down or
decommissioned. Hundreds have been converted to homes or rentals, and others
currently are up for sale.
The real Duncan Peak, where the lookout was located until 1941
